Encuentro Amazonía que Late and Festival Conservamos

From October 2 to 4, Lima hosted the Encuentro Amazonía que Late, one of the most important spaces for connecting, highlighting, and strengthening voluntary and community-based conservation initiatives. During this event, representatives from conservation networks across different regions of Peru shared their daily work to protect Amazonian, Andean, and coastal ecosystems through community and citizen-led efforts.

Over three days, participating organizations exchanged experiences, discussed challenges, and explored strategies to sustain conservation. Additionally, the program included dialogue spaces with public institutions, technical workshops, knowledge sharing, and recognition of initiatives that stand out for their management and commitment to their territories.

Arbio Perú present

At this edition, ARBIO Perú was represented by Margarita Caller, who actively participated in discussions with other organizations. She shared ARBIO’s experience in voluntary conservation in Madre de Dios. Moreover, she addressed the challenges of illegal logging, ecosystem degradation, and the need to strengthen the capacities of those working on the ground.

In addition, Rocío Espinosa, co-founder of ARBIO, participated in the panel “Mechanisms for Financing Private and Voluntary Conservation Areas.” This was a key opportunity to discuss one of the main challenges in Peru: ensuring long-term financial sustainability for conservation initiatives.

Encuentro Amazonía que Late

“Amazonía que Late” has become a space for listening, collaboration, and collective action. Organizations agreed that the challenges of voluntary conservation—such as funding, territorial threats, technical capacities, and bureaucracy—are shared. Therefore, building networks and collaborating across regions is essential to address these challenges effectively.

Arbio at Festival Conservamos

As part of the same week of activities, Parque de Barranco hosted the Festival Conservamos, a free, open-air event organized by Conservamos por Naturaleza. Throughout the day, attendees enjoyed live concerts and participatory workshops. They also explored a sustainable fair with environmentally focused products and services. The event brought citizens closer to concrete ways to engage in conservation.

Arbio was also present at the festival, sharing our work in the Amazon of Madre de Dios. For example, we protect century-old trees such as the Shihuahuaco and highlight the importance of maintaining forests as a key strategy against climate change. Through conversations with visitors, we showed the reality of the forest and emphasized the role of voluntary conservation in ensuring a healthy future for current and future generations.
